Who We Are

History of ECAS

History: In 1997, Nancy Patiño, a high school teacher in the Providence schools, brought together a group of Latinos active in the arts of poetry, dance, music, and painting, in order to provide young students with extracurricular programming to explore their own cultures. The Educational Center of Arts and Science (ECAS) was born. Francis Parra took over the theater and performing arts program, thus giving birth to Teatro ECAS, an independent 501c3 arts organization. Since then, Teatro ECAS has been the leading Latino theater in New England, presenting classic and contemporary works in Spanish, training a generation of Latino actors, and managing educational programs for all ages. Teatro ECAS has also presented works in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Cuba. Today, Teatro ECAS is the only Latino repertory theater in New England.

COMMUNITY

Being part of the theater is like being part of a family.

Art is a language that we all understand, regardless of culture. For 25 years, Teatro ECAS has presented the best of classical and contemporary Latin American and Hispanic American theatre, thanks to the generous support of people like you. Contribute today and become part of the ECAS family.

MISSION

Located in the heart of southeastern New England, Teatro ECAS brings together diverse, multi-generational audiences to experience the joy of live theater performed in Spanish, fostering self-discovery and cultural connection.

Vision

With a focus on children, youth, and families, Teatro ECAS aspires to enrich the cultural and civic vitality of our community while achieving national prominence for its artists and their art.
